The most common type of circular reference occurs when you mistakenly refer in the formula to the cell in which you're building the formula itself.
How to Find Circular References If you go back to the Options menu, Formulas, and you un-check "Use Iterative Calculations" Excel will display an error message and blue arrows that show all the circular references on your current sheet, along with the exact cells at the bottom of the screen:A circular reference in an Excel 2013 formula is one that depends, directly or indirectly, on its own value. Also it is a run-around where in two resources are interdependent on each other.
Here is how to use it:A circular reference is a series of references when a formula refers back to its own cell, either directly or indirectly and the last object references the first, resulting in a closed loop. By default, Excel stops calculating after 100 iterations or after all values in the circular reference change by less than 0.001 between iterations, unless you change the Excel option. This will enable iterative calculation and thus allowing circular reference. An iteration is a repeated recalculation until a specific numeric condition is met. Click on any one of the cells in this list.On the Excel Options window, go to the 'Formula' tab and tick the 'Enable iterative calculation' check box under the 'Calculation options' section. As I mentioned in my first post, setting the iterations corrects it, however I'm stumped why one calculation works without CR and one doesn't.In case the circular reference is not in the active sheet (but in other sheets in the same workbook), it will only show Circular reference and not the cell address In case you get a circular reference warning prompt once and you dismiss it, it will not show the prompt again the next time.Click on the Formulas tab.
